Activity Books FAQ

Activity Books FAQ's

Why should I choose these Activity Books instead of generic workbooks?

Because these books teach real phonics, not just worksheets. Each sound has a story, action and writing practice, giving children a structured, fun path to early reading.

How many Activity Books are there?

There are seven Jolly Phonics Activity Books. Each one introduces a new group of sounds and builds on what children have learned in the previous books, so it’s best to start with Activity Book 1 and work through the series in order.

What age are they for?

The series is designed for children aged 4+, at the very beginning of their reading and writing journey. (They contain stickers and small parts, so they’re not suitable for children under 3.)

Do I need to know phonics or have any teaching experience to use these books?

No other resources are required – you can use the Activity Books on their own.
However, they also fit naturally alongside other Jolly Phonics materials if you’re using the full programme in school or at home.

How long does it take to complete a book?

That depends on the child and how often you use it. Many families and teachers like to work on a page or two at a time, keeping sessions short so that children stay engaged and confident.

Will these books actually help my child learn to read?

Yes. Even in Activity Book 1, children start to blend sounds to read and write simple words such as ant, pin and sit. Later books build on this, giving lots of practice with more sounds and words.

Can the books be reused?

The pages are designed to be written in, coloured and stickered, so each book becomes a personal record of a child’s phonics journey. For multiple children, you may wish to give each child their own set.
